Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Govt Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) is gearing up to intensify its protest over the suspension of a doctor in connection with the alleged medical negligence case at Nedumangad district hospital. Doctors are already protesting by boycotting the outpatient services at the hospital. There will be no outpatient services on Monday at this hospital as well, the protestors said.The doctors also warned of boycotting duties during Attukal Pongala festival and they have decided to extend their OP boycott to all hospitals in the district on Tuesday. The doctors are demanding the withdrawal of gynaecologist Dr Bindu Sundar’s suspension and the arrest of those who assaulted the superintendent of the hospital.

There were reports that the expert team which investigated the alleged medical negligence found that there was a serious lapse by the doctor in the case where a newborn died during a caesarean section. The investigation reportedly revealed a delay in performing the caesarean. The inquiry committee also found that a decision could have been made earlier. The findings from a three-member expert team from SAT Hospital were submitted to the director of medical education. Meanwhile, another patient Hasna Fathima, alleged misconduct by Dr Bindu. The 23-year-old said she suffered severe health issues after Dr Bindu performed a caesarean on her on June 19, 2025. During the procedure, an injury to her genital area also led to a tear in her rectum. She returned to the hospital days later due to persistent pain. When she cried out, Dr Bindu allegedly called her arrogant and treated her wound only after receiving a bribe of Rs 2,000. During the surgery the rectum was torn by 2.7cm, the patient alleged. However, Dr Bindu reportedly claimed the injury was due to travel. Eventually, when her condition worsened, she was transferred to medical college, where underwent five surgeries. Her husband sold his autorickshaw and took a loan for her treatment. She said she was relying on an external bag for bowel movements and cannot even hold her son.
