Surat: A teenager from the city has filed a complaint of sexual intercourse by deceitful means against a 19-year-old man from Kerala after she became pregnant.Puna police have arrested the accused, a native of Palakkad district in Kerala.Police said the two met about a year ago while playing the online game Free Fire. During the game, the girl came across another player whose username was “Astro”. After a brief interaction, they exchanged their Instagram IDs and phone numbers and began communicating regularly.According to police, the girl had been living in Kerala with her mother, brother and sister-in-law for the past 15 years and had studied there up to Class 12. Her mother shifted to Surat about seven months ago following a divorce.During their online interactions, the accused later revealed his real name, though they continued to use different usernames in the game. Since he belonged to a different faith, the girl initially refused to enter into a relationship with him. However, police said he allegedly persuaded her by promising to marry her.In Feb 2026, the accused allegedly took her to a hotel where they had sexual relations. A month later, the girl discovered that she was pregnant and asked him to marry her. Police said the accused refused and instead asked her to undergo an abortion. When he continued to pressure her for the same, she asked him to move to Surat and marry her there.Puna police inspector V. M. Desai said, “About two weeks ago, the girl and the accused came to Surat and started living with her mother. However, when he continued to refuse marriage, she approached the police and lodged a complaint.”Police have registered a case against the accused under Section 69 for sexual intercourse by deceitful means and arrested him, Desai said.
