T’puram: CPM may field actor Sudheer Karamana as the LDF-backed independent candidate in the Thiruvananthapuram assembly seat. CPM leaders have held discussions with Sudheer, and an official declaration is awaited. Sudheer, son of late actor Karamana Janardhanan Nair, is a common fixture in CPM programmes. CPM made the move in the wake of LDF ally Janadhipathya Kerala Congress (JKC) failing to identify a suitable candidate for the Thiruvananthapuram constituency. JKC did come up with some names, but CPM did not accept any of them. However, the state leadership ruled out the CPM district leadership’s recommendation that CPM should take over the seat from JKC. NDA has also not named its candidate in the seat. BJP city president Karamana Jayan is one of the main contenders for the seat. However, a final decision is yet to be made. C P John of Communist Marxist Party is the UDF candidate in the seat.
