Kendrapada: Police on Thursday arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife and attempting to make it appear as a suicide in Kendrapada district.The accused, Ratnakar Behera of Bankuala village under Talachua Marine police station limits, was arrested in connection with the death of his wife, Uttara Behera (35).Police said the victim’s father, Mahendra Behera of Dangamal village, lodged an FIR on Wednesday, alleging Uttara was subjected to harassment and torture over dowry demands since her marriage in 2015. The complainant alleged Ratnakar killed her on Tuesday night and later hung the body from a ceiling fan to portray it as a suicide. “Multiple injury marks on the body raised suspicion of foul play,” police said.“Based on the FIR, we launched an investigation and arrested the accused on charges under sections 103 (murder) and 85 (cruelty by husband or his relatives) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act,” said Naresh Kumar Sahoo, IIC, Talachua Marine police station. Police said the accused was produced before Rajnagar court on Thursday, which rejected his bail plea remanded him in judicial custody.
