Ponda: Fearing attacks from bison and leopards, residents of Kavlem village in Ponda taluka have sought swift action against wild animals venturing towards habitations.The loss suffered by paddy cultivators and plantation owners at Dhavali — due to the incursions by bison, leopards, and monkeys — was brought to the notice of the panchayat body.The locals urged the panchayat to write to the forest department to find a solution and plant fruit-bearing trees in forest areas and on hills to give food resources to wild animals in their own habitats.Sarpanch Manuja Naik said the panchayat will take the forest department’s help.The gram sabha on Sunday asked the panchayat to initiate measures to control the menace of cattle on roads, which heightens the risk of accidents.Deputy sarpanch Sushant Kapileshwarkar said the panchayat has signed an MOU with some cattle shelters to solve the stray cattle problem.
