Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha, whose request to register her party under the name “TRS” was objected to by the Election Commission of India (ECI), moved the Delhi high court on Tuesday seeking directions to the poll panel to allot the name to her party. However, the court declined to intervene and asked her to first approach the ECI.In her petition, Kavitha said the ECI, in a letter dated June 23, had raised objections to the proposed party name and directed her to suggest three alternative names. The commission also stated that the new name should not result in the abbreviation “TRS”.During the hearing, the Delhi high court observed that Kavitha should first submit an appropriate reply to the ECI’s notice before seeking judicial intervention.At this stage, entertaining the petition would amount to interfering with the statutory functions of the ECI, the court observed, advising her to complete the process before the ECI and then seek judicial relief, if necessary.Kavitha launched Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) on April 25 and subsequently applied for the party’s registration. The ECI received around 700 objections to the proposed name, following which it asked the party to submit three alternative names within two weeks.
