Times News NetworkChandigarh: Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of four minor boys from Chandigarh who lost their lives after being swept away by the strong current of Ganga river during the Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar on July 31. Kataria visited the bereaved families and conveyed his condolences, assuring them that the Chandigarh administration stood firmly with them in their hour of grief.Describing the incident as deeply distressing, the governor said the loss of four young lives had caused immense sorrow not only to the affected families but also to the city. He noted that the deceased children belonged to economically weaker families, with some living in particularly difficult financial conditions, making the tragedy even more painful.Praying for eternal peace to the departed souls, Kataria also wished for strength to the families to cope with the irreparable loss. Announcing the relief from the governor’s discretionary fund, he said each affected family would receive Rs 5 lakh as immediate financial assistance. He observed that no monetary compensation could make up for the loss of a child, but the aid was intended to provide some relief during this period of hardship. He directed officials concerned to extend all possible assistance to the affected families.
