Chandigarh: In a crackdown on drug trafficking, Chandigarh Police has arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered 88.2 grams of methamphetamine (ICE), a commercial quantity, from his possession.The accused, Parveen Garg (25) of Sector 52, was arrested in Sector 51, police said.Verification of his criminal record revealed that Garg is a repeat offender, with multiple cases registered against him under the NDPS Act in Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and other jurisdictions. Investigators also found that his father is facing several criminal cases, including those under the NDPS Act.During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that he had turned to drug trafficking to fund his own addiction. Preliminary investigations suggest he procured narcotics from areas in and around Delhi and Punjab before supplying them in Chandigarh and the Tricity region.Police have obtained six days’ custody of the accused for further investigation. Efforts are under way to identify members of the supply network and trace others linked to the racket.Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, Chandigarh Police appealed to the public to share information about narcotics-related activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
