Srinagar, Sep 2: The sixth edition of the International Film Festival of Kashmir (IFFK) concluded at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, on Wednesday, bringing two days of cinematic engagement to a close with the screening of 15 films on the final day and announcement of the award winners.
Organised jointly by Kashmir Valley Theatre and Hot Ice Films, the festival showcased films from different countries and creative traditions, providing a platform for filmmakers, artists, film enthusiasts and audiences.
The festival also marked two decades since the inception of IFFK, which has promoted independent and meaningful cinema while encouraging cultural dialogue through films.
A major highlight of the closing ceremony was the official poster launch of the new Kashmiri feature film “Yaqza: The Awakening.” Directed by Ali Emran and produced by Yaqut Mushtaq, the makers also announced that the film has been completed.
The jury presented the Best Feature Film award to Golnesa, while Rose de Chine won Best Short Film – International. Thursday Special was adjudged Best Short Film – National, while Acid City won Best Short Film – New Media.
The Best Short Film on a Social Issue award went to Dear Panther. The jury also gave Special Mentions to That Ugly Green Planet, Family Man and Unchain.
Festival Director Yaqut Mushtaq said future editions would continue to maintain the standards and credibility established by the festival while expanding its engagement with filmmakers, students and audiences.
The sixth edition concluded with a reflection on IFFK’s two-decade journey and its contribution to the growth of cinema and cultural discourse in Kashmir.
