Bengaluru: The state’s toll collections from national highways have more than doubled over the past five years, driven by expanding highway infrastructure, growing traffic volumes and the addition of new toll plazas.According to data tabled in Parliament by Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, toll revenue in Karnataka increased from Rs 2,351.3 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 4,779.4 crore in 2025-26, registering a growth of over 103% during the period.The state’s toll collection network expanded significantly. The number of operational toll plazas rose from 46 in 2021-22 to 68 in 2025-26.The data shows the toll collections rose sharply from Rs 2,351 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 3,517 crore in 2022-23, before increasing to Rs 4,086 crore in 2023-24, Rs 4,320 crore in 2024-25 and Rs 4,779 crore in 2025-26. The steepest annual increase was recorded in 2022-23, when revenue surged by nearly 50% compared with the previous year.Periodic increases in toll charges also contributed to the rise in the revenue over the past five years.
