Bengaluru: Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday challenged Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to order an investigation into his claim that attempts were made to conduct a sting operation against him and his Cabinet colleagues.

Responding to questions in Delhi, Kumaraswamy said Shivakumar should disclose the identities of those allegedly involved if the police were aware of the operation and had photographs and other evidence.

“If a sting operation was actually attempted, let there be an investigation. If the police knew about it and there is evidence, who were the people involved? Why not place those details before the public,” Kumaraswamy asked.

He also questioned Shivakumar’s reference to an alleged “mastermind” behind the operation and said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) should investigate the matter.

Kumaraswamy alleged that the controversy was being used to divert attention from documents he had released over alleged irregularities in the NICE project.

“If you knew that someone had come to trap you and had evidence, why were they allowed to leave? Why were they not arrested?” he said.
