DHARWAD: A 28-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before dying by suicide after hanging himself from a ceiling fan at their home in Karnataka’s Dharwad district, police said on Friday.The incident occurred in Garag village of Dharwad taluk on Thursday.The woman was identified as Salma, 22, while her husband was identified as Moulasab, 28.Moulasab, who worked as a mason and daily-wage labourer, had been married to Salma for three years. The couple had a one-and-a-half-year-old child.Police suspect that Moulasab killed his wife over his suspicion that she was having an affair, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.Relatives had organised a family mediation meeting two days before the incident in an attempt to settle the issue. However, the dispute reportedly resurfaced later.Dharwad Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya said police were informed about the incident at around 10.30pm on Thursday. When a team reached the house, they found Salma dead and Moulasab hanging from a ceiling fan.“We registered a case under Section 103(1) (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Garag Police Station and further investigation is underway,” he told reporters.Salma’s grandmother later filed a murder complaint, alleging that Moulasab had killed her with a knife.According to Arya, the preliminary investigation found that Moulasab had been suspicious of his wife’s character and repeatedly argued with her over his belief that she was in contact with another man.Further investigation into the incident is underway.
