Jaipur: The 45-year-old man arrested for allegedly killing his wife and three daughters in Kardhani had accumulated debts of nearly Rs 47 lakh, including loans from multiple mobile lending apps, and the EMIs were being paid by his wife and eldest daughter, police sources said.Rahul Jha allegedly told interrogators after his arrest that he had already sold a previous house and was considering mortgaging the family’s existing house in Kardhani to raise money. His wife, Geeta, had opposed the move, a senior police officer told TOI.Financial distress is now emerging as a key line of investigation into the killings, while police are also examining Rahul’s strained relationship with his eldest daughter as the prime cause of murder.Sources said Rahul confessed to the killings during preliminary interrogation. He allegedly told police that he had become increasingly suspicious of his eldest daughter and had been monitoring her activities.Rahul reportedly accused her of lying about her job and relationships and objected to her speaking to people on the phone late at night. He is also learnt to have told interrogators that he suspected she was frequently meeting different men.On Tuesday, police took Rahul to the Kardhani house for scene recreation. Investigators said he first led them to the terrace and showed them the spot from where he had picked up a concrete block before allegedly attacking Geeta.He then took police back to the terrace and showed them where he had picked up another piece of stone, which he allegedly used to attack his eldest daughter and the other two girls.The recreation is part of the investigation into the sequence of the killings. Police are also examining Rahul’s financial transactions, loan accounts and property dealings to establish the extent of his debt and whether financial distress contributed to the crime.
