Prayagraj: In a major boost to cardiac care, Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital (KNMH) in Prayagraj is set to start an advanced AI-enabled cath lab facility from June this year.
The state-of-the-art system will help in accurate diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases using high-definition 3D imaging technology. The AI-powered cath lab will enable precise detection of arterial blockages, while its intelligent catheter navigation system will reduce manual errors and radiation exposure during procedures. Smart software integrated into the system will also detect procedural irregularities in real time, ensuring safer and more efficient treatment for patients.
Hospital director Hari Om Singh informed that the machine has already been installed and will become operational once the dedicated recovery room is completed. “This will be the third such AI cath lab facility in the country and the first in Uttar Pradesh. The project involves an investment of around Rs 20 crore,” claims Singh.
To support the new facility, a separate recovery room is being developed on the hospital premises. The unit will also provide integrated diagnostic services such as ultrasound, MRI, CT scan and X-ray, reducing the need for patients to move across different sections of the hospital for tests.
Interestingly, the cath lab machine reached the hospital ahead of schedule due to global geopolitical tensions. Originally expected to arrive from Germany via sea in May, the equipment was instead airlifted and delivered on Mar 29 and installed thereafter.
Officials said the AI cath lab will significantly improve the accuracy of procedures such as stent placement. Advanced features like smooth gantry movement and enhanced imaging quality will provide greater flexibility to doctors during operations.
The facility is expected to mark a significant advancement in cardiac treatment in the region, offering cutting-edge technology and improved patient care under one roof.
