Chennai: IIT Madras director V Kamakoti has invited big industries in the country to use the indigenous Shakti microprocessor in their products.“We must grow our own technology and encourage our own designs. If we don’t respect our own technology, our country will remain the same,” Kamakoti said at the ‘Super Chennai Arattai’ on Monday. Citing the example of Agnikul Cosmos, which built a 3D printed rocket in 72 hours, he said, “The startups are giving fantastic results which major industries could not even dream of. To encourage them, we have allowed our own startups to come and hire on Day 1 of campus placements this year.” Agnikul gave away 10 offers with a package worth 18 lakh a year. “This money is enough for young students and they can be part of an exciting journey,” he added. He also asked students not to get distracted and focus on the subject from the grassroots level for better understanding. “The craze for going to foreign countries has come down. IIT-M has received hundreds of applications from foreign countries for faculty positions. We want people from abroad to come here and study. We have certain USPs such as our way of education, pedagogy, approach to science and way of life,” Kamakoti said. Kamakoti also received Super Chennai Icon of the Month award in recognition of his contributions to academia and technology.
