Gorakhpur: A juvenile escaped from police custody from the district hospital in Gorakhpur on Wednesday morning after allegedly pushing two policemen during a routine medical examination.The accused, a resident of the Rajghat area, was apprehended around 15 days ago in connection with a theft case and was subsequently sent to a juvenile correction home.On Wednesday, three juveniles were brought to the district hospital at around 11am for a routine health check-up under police escort.Preliminary inquiries suggest that instead of taking the juveniles individually for examination, two policemen were escorting all three together.Taking advantage of the lapse, one of the juveniles allegedly pushed the policemen and fled from the hospital premises.Officers from Kotwali police station rushed to the hospital and launched a search operation in nearby areas.CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding locations is being examined, while police teams are conducting raids at the juvenile’s suspected hideouts and gathering information from his family members.SP City Nimish Patil said efforts were under way to locate the juvenile.He added that prima facie negligence on the part of the escorting policemen had come to light and that departmental action would be taken based on the inquiry report.
