Shillong: Meghalaya State Judicial Academy (MSJA), under the aegis of the High Court of Meghalaya, organised a one-day outreach programme on the “Right to Clean Air: From Statistics to Action” amid growing concerns over air pollution in Byrnihat Circle.The programme, held at the Multipurpose Hall in Byrnihat on Friday, was organised in collaboration with the office of the block development officer, Umling community and rural development block, Ri-Bhoi district.MSJA director KM Lyngdoh Nongbri highlighted the importance of the initiative and said access to clean air was a fundamental right.Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board chief environmental engineer Wanshanbor R Kharkrang and chief scientist S Swer conducted sessions on air pollution statistics in Byrnihat and the Waste Management Rules, 2026.Located along the Meghalaya-Assam inter-state boundary, Byrnihat falls partly within the jurisdiction of both states and is known for severe industrial pollution.The programme included hotspot mapping by students, a waste-segregation challenge, a waste and pollution detective puzzle, video demonstrations and the distribution of vehicle waste pouches.
