Jharkhand students and aspirants protest

RANCHI: Tension escalated between police and JPSC-JSSC aspirants near the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha on Monday.Reportedly, at least three protesters and a Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) personnel have been injured in the scuffle so far.The clashes occurred as protesting students marched towards the assembly, demanding action over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.A student protester alleged that police carried out a “barbaric lathi-charge” near the barricades, claiming that students were hit on their heads, arms and faces.Speaking to ANI, the protester said, “Baton should be used only below the waist but they hit us on head, arms, face and everywhere else. This shows the double standards of the government.”Amid the confrontation, a student was seen climbing atop the police barricade and dancing as police used water cannons to disperse the protesters.The confrontation came as JPSC-JSSC aspirants marched towards the assembly, demanding action over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.The administration had tightened security in Ranchi ahead of the protesters’ planned march, with prohibitory orders imposed around the assembly and barricades erected to prevent protesters from reaching the premises.The students have been protesting over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations and have been demanding a probe into the matter.The agitation has continued despite the government claiming that most of the protesters’ demands had been accepted.Protesters, however, have maintained that their key demands remain unresolved.The students had announced the ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march as part of their ongoing agitation, prompting authorities to deploy additional security personnel around the assembly premises.The situation turned tense as protesters attempted to move towards the barricaded area, leading to confrontation with police and subsequent use of force and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
