Prayagraj: Bringing laurels to both Indian Railways and the nation, the international wrestler Jonty Kumar has been conferred with ‘Laxman Award’, the highest sport honour awarded by Uttar Pradesh govt. The award was presented by chief minister Yogi Adityanath during a grand ceremony in Lucknow on Tuesday.Currently serving as a Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk (CCTC) in the Jhansi division of NCR, Jonty Kumar received a cash prize along with a citation certificate as part of the honour for his exceptional achievements in wrestling at national as well as international levels.According to chief public relations officer of NCR, Shashikant Tripathi, Jonty’s consistent excellence and dedication have made him a standout figure in Indian wrestling. Associated with Delhi’s renowned Hanuman Akhara, he has built an impressive record over the years.His achievements include winning the ‘Bharat Kesari’ title four times, ‘UP Kesari’ three times, and ‘Bharat Kumar’ twice. He has also secured multiple gold medals across major tournaments, including the National Games, Senior Federation Cup, Senior National Wrestling Championship, Under-23 National Championship, and the Asian Wrestling Championship. Additionally, he has represented India at both the senior world wrestling championship and senior Asian wrestling championship.Notably, Jonty Kumar has previously been felicitated three times by the CM for his ‘UP Kesari’ victories.NCR GM Naresh Pal Singh and NCR’s sports association congratulated him.
