Jaipur: Garbage continues to pile up at multiple spots along Sudarshanpura main road near Kartarpura nullah, with residents and business owners complaining of foul smell, occasional fires and irregular waste lifting. A scrap dealer has also encroached on the footpath, further adding to the problems along the busy stretch. The responsibility for cleaning the area and disposing of waste remains disputed between Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Limited (RIICO) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC). RIICO Senior Deputy General Manager Gyanendra Sharma said the area comprises both residential and industrial zones and is cleaned by both agencies. “However, the final disposal of waste rests with JMC, and the solution to regular dumping lies with the civic body,” he said, adding that the issue had been raised earlier and discussed with officials. Deputy commissioner, Malviya Nagar, Mukut Choudhary, however, said the responsibility lies with RIICO. Ward councillor Kavita Katiyar said cleaning in the industrial area was currently being carried out by RIICO-appointed contractors. “If JMC receives funds from RIICO to clean the area, the problem can be resolved,” she said. Residents and business owners said the lack of clarity between the agencies had resulted in irregular garbage lifting. Garage owner Suresh Kumar said waste at one of the dumping points was lifted only once every eight days. “There is a foul smell, and sometimes the garbage catches fire, forcing the fire brigade to intervene,” Kumar said. He also alleged that govt sanitation workers dumped waste at the spot and said he had lodged a complaint through the Swachhata app. Businessman Amit Gupta, whose factory is located on Sudarshanpura Main Road, said roadside dumping was also being done by vendors. “Rickshaw pullers and sugarcane juice vendors also come and dump their waste here,” he said. At another garbage patch, Mukesh Valmiki, a stall owner, said people often dumped waste late at night. Residents said merely lifting garbage would not resolve the issue and sought strict action against those dumping waste on the roadside. They said recurring garbage piles, foul smell and occasional fires posed hygiene and public safety concerns.
