Kolkata: A court on Monday sentenced Dilbar Hossain, an alleged close associate of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terrorist Jahidul Islam Mizan alias ‘Boma Mizan’, to eight years of rigorous imprisonment after he pleaded guilty in a 2018 case linked to an attempted sabotage plan in the city.Chief judge Sukumar Roy of the Kolkata city sessions court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000, with an additional three months imprisonment in default of payment. The court awarded separate sentences for other offences but directed that all terms would run concurrently.Hossain was arrested by the Kolkata Police STF in 2018 after investigators claimed to have foiled a sabotage attempt. Police records show he used multiple aliases, including Umar, Nurul and Ali Hasan. He is currently lodged in Presidency Jail.Special public prosecutor Ganesh Maity said Hossain was charged with sedition, offences related to explosive, and provisions under the UAPA. During the hearing, Hossain conveyed through his counsel that he wished to plead guilty and sought leniency.Mizan was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment last week in a planned jailbreak case, in addition to a 29-year jail term awarded earlier for his terror-related activities.Court sources said the case has so far led to the conviction of 12 terrorists.
