Srinagar, Sep 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said AI Labs, AI Learning Centres and Centres of Excellence are proposed at suitable institutions across the UT in a phased and need-based manner, subject to the availability of infrastructure, technical expertise and funds.
The government stated this in a written reply to a question tabled by MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
The Information Technology Department said it has initiated the process to establish an AI Centre of Excellence in J&K, equipped with advanced laboratory and computing infrastructure, incubation and innovation facilities, and support for research, skill development and AI-based solutions.
The department said the government is promoting artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as part of its broader digital transformation programme. It is also working to develop technological infrastructure, encourage research and innovation, build skills and introduce AI-based solutions across different sectors.
Replying to a question on whether vacant government land would be identified to establish an AI facility in Zadibal as a pilot project for youth, the government said no such proposal is currently under consideration for the constituency.
However, it said suitable proposals for AI Labs, AI Learning Centres or similar facilities may be considered in future, subject to feasibility and the availability of suitable infrastructure, land and resources.
The government also said it is exploring the development of IT and IT-enabled services infrastructure and IT Parks across the UT. Existing institutional facilities, including ITIs and polytechnics, may also be used to support AI skills training and access to learning centres.
