Srinagar, Feb 14: Jammu & Kashmir will take on Bengal in the Ranji Trophy semi-final on Sunday, marking the first time in their history that they have reached the last four of India’s premier domestic competition.

Since making their Ranji debut in 1959-60, J&K had reached the quarter-finals on three occasions, 2001-02, 2013-14 and 2019-20 but had never progressed further. This season represents their deepest run in the tournament.

The campaign has been built around a disciplined pace attack. Auqib Nabi has led the bowling charts for J&K with 46 wickets and is among the leading wicket-takers of the season. Sunil Kumar and Yudhvir Singh have provided consistent support, giving the side control with the new ball and sustained pressure through long spells.

Spin has complemented pace effectively. Abid Mushtaq and Vanshaj Sharma have controlled the middle overs while contributing important wickets.

With the bat, J&K have shown consistency rather than reliance on individual brilliance. Abdul Samad has scored 543 runs this season, while Paras Dogra has provided experience and stability in crucial phases. Mushtaq’s contributions with the bat have further strengthened the lower order.

“We will keep it simple. The pitch looks good for batting. The team batting well will win,” Dogra said ahead of the contest.

Bengal enter the semi-final with strong numbers. Sudip Gharami has accumulated 651 runs, including 299 in the quarter-final. All-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed has contributed 368 runs and 39 wickets, giving Bengal balance in both departments.

For J&K, Sunday presents an opportunity to reach their first Ranji Trophy final and extend what is already their most successful season in the competition.
