Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday stated that the Jammu and Kashmir Police has executed a major tactical shift, moving beyond conventional operations to actively pursue and neutralize terrorists in the dense forest ranges and high-altitude mountains of the Union Territory.
Addressing a gathering in Reasi, the DGP, as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), said that security forces have now taken the battle directly to the enemy’s doorstep, effectively dismantling their traditional safe havens.
“We have changed our strategy and our tactics. We have started moving upwards, taking the fight into the higher reaches—into the jungles and the mountains. Whether it is Jhatru or the Udhampur-Kathua belt, we are now confronting the enemy directly on his own turf,” DGP Prabhat said.
Citing a landmark success of this aggressive approach, he pointed to the operation in the Mahadev area. “You may recall last year’s operation. We went deep into some of the most difficult and treacherous terrain and eliminated three Pakistani terrorists who were responsible for the brutal killing of 26 innocent civilians in Baisaran,” the DGP said, underlining the force’s capability to deliver justice across challenging landscapes.
DGP Prabhat also detailed a comprehensive crackdown on the ecosystem that fuels terrorism, particularly the narcotics trade. He revealed staggering numbers in the fight against drugs, which are often linked to terror financing.
“Our enforcement has been relentless. We have arrested 2,276 accused in drug-related cases. Among them, 226 have been booked under the stringent PIT NDPS Act—a figure that ranks among the highest in the country. Additionally, we have attached 54 properties belonging to those involved in anti-national activities,” he stated.

The DGP also stressed the importance of winning the battle for hearts and minds, highlighting the police force’s deep-rooted connection with the community. “The bond between J&K Police and the public remains our greatest strength. In the last year alone, we conducted nearly 5,300 ‘Thana Diwas’ programs across the districts to foster this relationship and ensure grassroots engagement.”
“The youth of Jammu and Kashmir are not a liability; they are our biggest asset. To channel their energy positively, we have organized nine major events and 228 sports activities at the district level,” Prabhat added.
Welcoming a new batch of recruits into the force, the DGP offered a stirring call to duty. “On behalf of the entire J&K Police family, I welcome our brave comrades who are joining us today. The road ahead is demanding, but it is paved with honour and countless opportunities to serve the nation with distinction,” he further added. (KNS)
