NEW DELHI: A jilted lover who abducted a girl’s 11-year-old brother and threatened to kill him unless she married him was hospitalised after consuming poison during a 22-kilometre police chase here when cops were about to arrest him, police said on Saturday.Officials said the accused, Dharam Pal, a resident of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh, was immediately shifted to BJRM Hospital, where he remains in custody.The boy had left home for school on August 31 but did not return. Police said he was rescued from Azadpur Flyover on Friday after they chased the accused from Loni in Ghaziabad to Delhi, covering a distance of about 22 kilometres. The accused was fleeing by bus, police said.According to police, Pal wanted to marry the boy’s sister and live with her, but she was unwilling to maintain any relationship with him.Police said the accused allegedly kidnapped her younger brother to pressure the family.He then called the boy’s mother from an unknown number, identified himself and threatened to kill the child if his demand that the girl be sent to him was not fulfilled.The Jahangir Puri police station received a PCR call regarding the boy’s disappearance on August 31 and registered an FIR based on the family’s complaint.Officials said police developed leads regarding their movements through technical surveillance and field investigation and tracked them to Loni in Ghaziabad.(With inputs from PTI)
