Gumla: The rescue and reunion of a 22-year-old woman from Simdega with her family on Monday has again highlighted the perils of trafficking, after she was lured, sold and forced into marriage in an unfamiliar land.In 2023, the woman, then aged 19, was coaxed by a man from a nearby village and taken to Delhi, and the horror unfolded.Simdega DSP Ranveer Singh on Tuesday told TOI, “In Delhi she was dropped at a placement centre, which in turn engaged her to work as a domestic help in a house. She worked there for a month. In the meantime, the man who had trafficked her to Delhi contacted her, asking her to come to the Anand Vihar bus terminal. As she reached there, the man switched off his mobile.”Stranded, she was approached by a man from Meerut. “The man asked her to accompany him to UP,” Singh added.“She was kept in a hotel in Meerut. Within two to three days, the man and his wife took her to Barmer in Rajasthan where they sold her for Rs 3 lakh,” he said. The woman was later forcibly married to her “buyer” and she endured mental agony and physical harassment. She also delivered a child during this period.“It was not her family members who informed us. Rather we got inputs from Rajasthan,” Singh said.“After receiving inputs and acting on the directive of Simdega SP, Shrikant S Khotre, we constituted a team led by the OC of the anti-human trafficking unit, which rescued her and brought her to Simdega on Monday and handed her over to her family members,” the DSP said.Four accused have been booked under various sections of BNS in this connection and police are trying to arrest them.
