Ranchi: Higher education and technical department will set up 13 professional colleges in seven districts to increase students’ access to job-oriented courses. Moreover, a Jharkhand Skill University (JSU) would be set up on the existing campus of Ranchi University (RU) after the latter is shifted to a new campus in Chedi. The department stated that proposed professional colleges for job-oriented courses would be set up in Ranchi, Khunti, Latehar, Deoghar, Chatra, Dhanbad and Palamu.“There are many areas like rural parts of Ranchi where scores of youths want professional education but they, particularly the women, do not have access to these courses in the city. So these colleges would come up in rural locations such as Tamar, Lapung and Burmu areas of the district. On the other hand, there are districts like Latehar which are underserved in this respect, so they are in need of such institutions,” principal secretary Rahul Purwar said.He said that these institutions would offer employment-oriented and regionally relevant professional courses aligned with local economic potential and emerging sectoral demands.Since the infrastructure of these institutions would take around two years to be completed, the courses would start in vacant spaces in govt buildings, he added. The department also plans to establish the JSU on the existing campus of Ranchi University (RU), which would be shifted to its new campus at Chedi mauza. The university shall focus on competency-based, industry-aligned and skill-integrated higher education, thereby strengthening employability and entrepreneurship among the youths.
