RANCHI: A Ranchi civil court on Tuesday granted bail to a man accused of throwing ink at All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora during a protest march to the Jharkhand Assembly on August 7.The accused, Amarnath Pandey, was detained immediately after the incident and arrested later.He was granted bail after furnishing two bail bonds of Rs 10,000 each, news agency PTI reported.According to his lawyer Gaurav Shukla, the court directed Pandey not to make any statement against Bora on any platform as a condition of bail.Pandey was booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint by AISA state secretary Santosh Kumar alias Trilokinath.The incident took place near Birsa Chowk when supporters of student organisations, including AISA and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF), were marching towards the assembly to protest alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations in Jharkhand.Pandey had later said that he disliked Bora and accused her of being a “supporter of Umar Khalid and an anti-national”, PTI reported.Umar Khalid was arrested in September 2020 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with allegations related to the February 2020 Delhi riots.(With agency inputs)
