Ramgarh: Jharkhand is set to receive 1,360 MW of power from Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) as the company’s second 800 MW unit has successfully completed its full-load trial run, paving way for commercial operation.PVUNL, a subsidiary of the state-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), in partnership with Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL), announced on Tuesday that Unit-2, with an established capacity of 800 MW, is now ready for commercial operation. The successful full-load trial was conducted on Monday evening, and the commercial operation date (COD) is likely to be announced very soon, a senior PVUNL official said.A K Sehgal, chief executive officer of PVUNL said that Unit-1, also of 800 MW capacity, has been operational since Nov 5, 2025, when it achieved COD. With Unit-2 now ready, Jharkhand will receive 1,360 MW from the two units, which together have an established capacity of 1,600 MW, in line with the MoU signed between NTPC and JBVNL.Sehgal said the successful trial marks another milestone for PVUNL and will strengthen industrial development while improving power supply. Under the MoU, Jharkhand is entitled to 85% of the power generated by PVUNL.Incorporated in 2015, PVUNL is a joint venture of NTPC and JBVNL and took over the assets of Patratu Thermal Power Station in 2016. The 4,000 MW supercritical thermal power project at Patratu, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 25, 2018, is being developed in two phases at an estimated cost of Rs 20,300 crore.
