Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Monday directed the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) and the state govt to keep 70 posts vacant for appointment of assistant teachers.A division bench of Chief Justice MS Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar was hearing JSSC’s appeal against a single-judge order directing it to consider candidates holding two-year BEd degrees.The JSSC had excluded such candidates, citing the 2022 Rules for Appointment of Assistant Teachers, which prescribed a one-year BEd degree as the minimum requirement.The advertisement was challenged before the single judge, who on July 14, 2025, ruled that candidates with two-year BEdcourses would also be eligible for appointment as assistant teachers. The assistant teacher appointment examinations were held in January 2024.The court’s direction ensures the posts remain unavailable for final appointment while the eligibility dispute over one-year and two-year BEd degrees is examined.
