Chennai: A 32-year-old employee of a jewellery shop in Teynampet has been arrested for stealing gold coins and ornaments from the store. Police said 103g of gold coins were recovered from the accused.According to the complaint filed by assistant general manager D’Souza Sagayaraj, a stock verification conducted in Feb 2026 at the T Nagar-based jewellery shop revealed a shortage of 172g of gold coins and ornaments. Following an internal inquiry, suspicion fell on an employee, Sivadev, who was in charge of maintaining the jewellery.During questioning, Sivadev confessed to stealing the gold items. He returned cash worth 4 lakh and 41g of gold ornaments, claiming he would hand over the remaining 103g. However, he failed to do so and had delayed the process. Based on the complaint lodged on April 11,a case was registered and a special police team arrested Sivadev from Kolathur on the same day. TNN
