Patna: Police shot at and injured Dilip Kumar, the alleged mastermind of a jewellery shop robbery at an agricultural farm, adjacent to Sipara in Beur police station area of Patna on Wednesday.The incident occurred when a police team accompanied Dilip to the location to recover weapons he had allegedly hidden there following the robbery at Ramkrishna Nagar about two days ago. According to police, the accused pushed an officer and suddenly opened fire with a loaded country-made pistol he had hidden there. In retaliation, sub-inspector Hemant Jha fired in self-defence, hitting Dilip in the leg. He was immediately taken to the NMCH for treatment, where he is currently undergoing treatment.A separate case has been registered at Beur police station regarding the firing on the police officer. The Forensic Science Laboratory team seized a pistol used in the robbery, a country-made pistol, two live cartridges of 7.65 mm, one live cartridge of 8 mm, and an empty shell from the spot.On April 19, five criminals riding two motorcycles committed a robbery at a jewellery shop in Ghana Colony under Ramakrishnanagar police station area. The accused beat the shopkeeper with the butt of a pistol and looted jewellery worth Rs15-20 lakh. Taking the matter seriously, a special team was formed under the direction of the City SP (East) Parichay Kumar to investigate the case.SSP Kartikeya K Sharma said through technical and scientific analysis, including CCTV footage, an accused, Udit Kumar, was first arrested. “His interrogation led to the identification and arrest of the main accused Dilip Kumar on Tuesday evening and his accomplice Rohan Kumar alias Rakesh Kumar. During questioning, it emerged that after the robbery, the gang proceeded to a farm in the Sipara area, where they divided the booty and hid the weapons,” he said.“When the police team reached the farm with Dilip, he attempted to flee and opened fire. An officer responded in self-defence and shot the accused in the leg. Dilip, resident of Beur, is the prime accused. A total of five people have been arrested,” the SSP said.Udit, a resident of Anisabad, took the accused on his bike after the incident. Rohan, resident of Vikas Nagar, Kurji, acted as an accomplice in the robbery. Sunil Kumar, resident of Bela Kuan, served as the receiver of the stolen silver. Santosh Kumar, resident under Malsalami police station, is the person from whose house the stolen silver was recovered.Sharma told the reporters that raids are continuing to nab the remaining accused involved in the robbery.
