Rajkot: A fatal stabbing in Jetpur, captured on CCTV and widely circulated on social media, has led to the arrest of a man for allegedly murdering the man his mother was living with. Police say the murder stemmed from resentment over the victim’s long-standing relationship with the accused’s mother.Kamlesh Vaghela (35) was allegedly stabbed to death in the Kankiya Plot neighbourhood of Jetpur town on Tuesday afternoon. Police arrested the alleged perpetrator, Jayant Vaghela, within a few hours of the killing.Rajkot SP Vijaysinh Gurjar said investigators have recorded the statement of the deceased’s brother, Kapil Vaghela, 25. According to Kapil, Kamlesh worked for the Jetpur municipality. He had been in in a relationship with Jayant’s mother, Neeta Naiya, for 12 years. They had executed a maitri karar (relationship agreement). The relationship had begun during the lifetime of Jayant’s father, Kalu Vaghela, and Jayant harboured resentment over it.Neeta had three children with Kalu, two sons and a daughter. The daughter had been adopted by Kamlesh, but Neeta had no dealings with her sons during her relationship with Kamlesh.Jetpur City police inspector A D Parmar said Kamlesh lived in the Kankiya Plot area and was a labourer. The postmortem and preliminary inquiry revealed that he was stabbed more than five times.CCTV footage, with audio, from a house in the neighbourhood surfaced on social media and is being examined by investigators. According to police, the footage appears to show Kamlesh pleading for help from bystanders and appealing directly to the accused during the attack.Investigators are also probing the presence of another individual visible in the footage alongside Jayant. Police are investigating the other person’s identity and role, if any, in the killing.
