Patna: Firebrand BJP MLA Haribhushan Thakur ‘Bachol’s’ statement on Tuesday that CM Nitish Kumar be made the Vice President (VP) of India drew sharp reaction from the JD(U), which termed it as an “unnecessary” comment. The CM’s party said Nitish is set to serve Bihar for another five years after the assembly elections due later this year.“Nothing can be better if Nitish Kumar becomes the country’s Vice President. It will also be auspicious for Bihar,” the Bisfi BJP MLA said, a day after Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned as the Vice President of the country on Monday, citing health reasons. Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has said the BJP is working on a strategy to sideline Nitish after fighting the elections in his name. When contacted, JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said CM Nitish has already been declared the leader of the NDA in Bihar. “Any such statement is ‘unnecessary’. We are working under his leadership to achieve the target of ‘225 (seats) in 2025, Phir Se Nitish’,” he said over phone. While deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said such issues are decided by the central leadership of the BJP and NDA, senior JD(U) minister Ashok Choudhary said it is for CM Nitish to decide whether he wants to become the Vice President or not. Another senior JD(U) minister, Madan Sahni, dismissed Bachol’s statement and said Nitish has served Bihar for the last 20 years and he will keep doing so as the CM in future. “Nitish is known as the best CM. Any such statement about the VP post for Nitish now is concocted,” Sahni said.
