Jaipur: Jaipur Development Authority’s (JDA) AI-based traffic management project, earlier expected to be completed by Aug-end, will now be implemented in phases over 10 years, a senior official said.JDA adviser R K Sharma said the latest plan supersedes earlier proposals to integrate artificial intelligence and Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) technology into Jaipur’s traffic network.The Rs 350-crore project will install AI-enabled cameras and traffic sensors at existing junctions to monitor vehicle movement and congestion in real time. At junctions with adaptive signals, the system will automatically adjust signal timings based on traffic volume instead of using fixed cycles.The initial rollout will cover around 330 locations. Sharma said the network could subsequently be expanded to 500 locations, with the larger rollout taking up to 12 years.The system will also detect traffic violations, including red-light jumping, speeding, wrong-way driving and lane violations. Number-plate recognition will identify vehicles and enable violations to be processed through the e-challan system.The system will be linked to a central command centre, allowing officials to monitor traffic conditions and signal operations across the city. AI-enabled cameras will also detect incidents such as waterlogging and potholes, according to project specifications.The project follows an AI-based traffic signal pilot at Rambagh Circle, where adaptive signal technology was tested in Aug.
