Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum DC Karn Satyarthi asked SSP Piyush Pandey to request the Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) headquarters for jawans to be deployed at the watch tower of the Ghaghidih central jail for round-the-clock security.Besides, the jail administration was asked to conduct a security audit of the jail on a regular basis. In addition, directions were issued to jail officials to ensure that there was no laxity in providing 24×7 vigilance of the jail.
The status of the CCTV cameras installed in the jail would be examined. The officials would also physically assess the situation and decide whether additional third-eye surveillance devices were required on the premises. The amenities at the central prison will be looked into and initiatives taken to improve them accordingly.On Tuesday, the DC reviewed the security of the central prison. The jail officials told DC that out of the 50 hand pumps, about half went out of order and required repairs.Further, the condition of power lights, drinking water facility, toilets, healthcare facility, and the prisoners’ cells will be assessed by the jail officials, and corrective measures will be taken.The DC asked the officials not to delay preparing an estimate for the repair work, to take technical clearance at the earliest, and to initiate the work on the ground.The civic amenities and healthcare facilities at the divisional jail, Sakchi, and the sub-jail, Ghatsila, were also discussed, and necessary directions were issued at the review meeting.
