Mounting debt emerging as a possible motive behind murders

JAIPUR: A 45-year-old man accused of killing his wife and three daughters in Kardhani was detained Sunday from Sikar, two days after the four were found dead at their home. The accused, Rahul Jha, allegedly fled Jaipur after the killings on Friday and travelled to Khatushyamji in Sikar, police said.Police said he later checked into a hotel but left after allegedly finding that he did not have enough money to pay his expenses. He then reached Reengus, where police tracking his movements caught up with him.Jha was wanted in connection with the deaths of his wife Geeta, 40, and daughters Nandani, 20, Radhika, 17, and Gauri, 14.Their bodies were found at their Govind Vatika home in Kardhani on Friday morning.Police investigating the case suspect Jha may have incapacitated the four with poison or sedatives before killing them with a single blow each to the head.Froth was found around the victims’ mouths, prompting investigators to examine whether a poisonous substance or sedative had been mixed with their food.Police, however, said frothing can also occur after severe blunt-force trauma and is not conclusive evidence of poisoning.Investigators are also examining whether Jha had planned the killings.Police suspect he may have checked on the victims after they fell unconscious and, finding them still alive, used a roughly 10kg cinder block to deliver a blow to each of them.
