Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) election was anticipated to be an indicator of local MLA’s performance in the state capital. While BJP has emerged a leading party, claiming 77 out of 150 wards, the results reveal a varied performance among its MLAs across different constituencies. Similarly, Congress victory in 52 wards reflect on the opposition MLAs’ performance in the city.Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s Sanganer constituency stands out as one of BJP’s strongest areas. Of the 21 wards, BJP won 14 and Congress seven, leaving no ward for an independent candidate.Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari’s Vidyadhar Nagar also remained favourable for BJP. Of the 20 declared results, BJP won 12, Congress three and independents five. Repolling is pending in two wards here.Jhotwara, represented by minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, has so far seen BJP win seven, Congress three and independents three of the 13 declared results. Repolling is due in two wards.In Malviya Nagar, BJP MLA Kalicharan Saraf’s constituency, BJP won nine of 15 wards, Congress five and an independent one. Hawa Mahal, represented by BJP’s Balmukund Acharya, saw BJP win eight, Congress four and independents three of the 15 wards.Bagru was a setback for BJP MLA Kailash Verma, with Congress winning eight of 14 wards and BJP six. There were no independent wins here.Civil Lines produced an exact split. BJP MLA Gopal Sharma’s constituency saw BJP and Congress win eight wards each, with no ward going to an independent.Among Congress-held assembly seats, Adarsh Nagar MLA Rafiq Khan’s constituency saw Congress win 10 of 17 wards, BJP six and an independent one. In Kishanpole, however, BJP led with six of 12 wards, against Congress’s four and independents’ two.Amer, represented by Congress MLA Prashant Sharma, produced the most evenly divided result, with BJP, Congress and an independent candidate winning one ward each.Numbers suggest that while BJP has an upper hand in Jaipur, an MLA’s influence does not necessarily translate into a uniform party performance across wards. Local candidates, organisation and ward-level issues appear to have played a significant role in shaping the final verdict.
