Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) on Thursday appointed former SGPC president and former minister Jagir Kaur as president of its women’s wing.In a statement, party general secretary Gurpratap Singh Wadala said the appointment was made as part of efforts to strengthen the revived Akali Dal.He said women had an important role in the party and described Jagir Kaur as a senior Akali leader with experience in both religious and political spheres.Jagir Kaur has previously served as SGPC president and also held the transport and cultural affairs portfolios in the Punjab government.
