Awantipora, Oct 22: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, has recorded its highest-ever annual admissions in 2026, with more than 2,000 students enrolled across 100 academic programmes, the university said on Thursday.

The admissions represent an increase of around 10 per cent compared to 2025, while the overall seat occupancy has reached approximately 91.7 per cent.

According to a statement issued by the university, the enrolment figure is expected to increase further as admissions to B.Tech programmes for working professionals are still underway.

The university said student admissions have doubled since 2022, while the number of academic programmes offered has increased by more than 100 per cent during the same period.

The expansion has been accompanied by the introduction of new courses across traditional and emerging disciplines under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Ramshoo.

Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir attributed the increase in admissions to the efforts of the university’s faculty and other stakeholders.

“The increase in admissions across programmes is a testimony to the hard work of IUST faculty,” he said, while reaffirming the university’s commitment to academic excellence.

IUST currently offers programmes in engineering, sciences, architecture, humanities, social sciences, management, computer applications, food technology, nursing and paramedical sciences.

The university has also introduced programmes in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, data science, geospatial technologies, robotics and automation, expanding academic and professional opportunities for students.
