Patna: Thanks to the recent initiative of the state department of science and technology, all the 47 govt polytechnics, including women’s polytechnics, will soon be imparting modern technical education by establishing Centres of Excellence (CoEs) with IIT-Patna’s assistance.Under the second phase of the ‘Saat Nischay’ programme, work on creating 33 COEs in different polytechnics is in progress.These CoEs specialise in advanced subjects like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, 3D Printing, Drone Technology, and Electric Vehicles. By providing instructors with structured training and offering modern hardware/software capabilities, the govt aims to drastically improve hands-on learning in these polytechnics.The mission of the CoE is to enable the institution as the innovation hub in the emerging technology. It will go a long-way in helping students and entrepreneurs by providing ideas, research and development facilities to build up Atma Nirbhar Bharat, said department’s secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh.Additional benefits include access to advanced lab infrastructure, specialised course curricula in emerging technology, and enhanced placement opportunities across core industries.Singh pointed out that keeping in view the needs of industries, diploma courses in 26 new disciplines are being imparted in different polytechnics of the state. Work on creating 33 COEs in different polytechnics is in progress in the second phase of the ‘Saat Nischay’ programme, he said.Placement scenarios have improved considerably, highlighting the success of these programmes. For instance, a major pooled placement drive conducted successfully with Maruti Suzuki India Limited resulted in job offers for 34 polytechnic students from districts such as Patna, Saran and Gaya.
