To say Jamie Overton is an under-rated cricketer would be an understatement. The burly all-rounder has been quietly playing starring roles in Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 campaign, like he did at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Sunday (May 10, 2026) to derail LSG after Josh Inglis had provided a flying start.

“I am playing the game for the team to win. I’m not really worried about individual accolades or (the number of) overs in every game. I’m more worried about what the team’s doing right.” Overton, ever the team man, said after a superb spell of three for 36 to restrict LSG.

Asked about his plans, he said, “I’m just trying to keep doing the simple things really well. Today was my day and it was nice to get a few wickets and break that (opening) partnership (between Inglis and Mitchell Marsh).”

The scalps of Inglis and LSG captain Rishabh Pant helped pull things back for CSK, which proved crucial in the final analysis.

Having found it difficult in his first year at CSK, Overton has been a revelation this season and spoke about the transformation.

“This time it sort of clicked nicely,” he said. “CSK is a phenomenal place to play for. Chennai is a great franchise to be involved with and it’s a real family vibe. And, last year, when I turned up, it felt like home straight away,” the Englishman said, reflecting on the reason for his success with the ball, having picked up 14 wickets so far.

Overton would like to keep putting his hand up as CSK continues its upward journey.
