Prayagraj: Allahabad University (AU) has revised the evaluation pattern, reducing the weightage of continuous internal assessment from 40% to 30% while increasing the weightage of end-semester examinations from 60% to 70%.Although the structure of question papers will remain unchanged, marks distribution will follow the new pattern. The decision was taken during the executive council (EC) meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Sangita Srivastava. During the meeting, sealed recommendations of various selection committees were opened and deliberated upon, while several important reforms related to examination patterns and student services were approved. According to varsity PRO Prof Jaya Kapoor, EC ratified decisions taken earlier in the examination committee meeting held on Feb 26. She said the changes will come into effect from the academic session 2026-27, particularly for postgraduate and professional courses. In a student-friendly move, the university has decided that candidates failing in a subject will now be required to reappear only in that specific paper instead of repeating the entire semester. To maintain academic quality, examiners awarding unusually high or low marks in practical examinations will be required to justify their evaluation. Additionally, remedial classes will be arranged for students needing academic support. The EC also approved a mandatory requirement for students to complete at least one 2-credit course through platforms such as SWAYAM, encouraging digital and flexible learning. In another decision, Prof Harsh Kumar has been appointed as Chair Professor at the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Chair. Significantly, the EC has given its nod to digitising degree-related services. Students will now be able to obtain provisional certificates, migration certificates and final degrees through an online system. The ‘no-dues’ process has also been integrated with the issuance of final mark sheets, making the system faster and more streamlined. Furthermore, the council approved new PhD regulations in line with UGC 2022 guidelines.
