Srinagar, September 3: The peaceful protest by MBBS and BDS intern doctors demanding an immediate hike in internship stipend entered its fourth day today, with demonstrations continuing at all Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) across Jammu & Kashmir and SKIMS Bemina.

Former CM and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, along with party leaders, also joined the protest by intern doctors at SKIMS Bemina yesterday.

Dr Faraz, an intern doctor and AIMSA representative said, “The government should act now and immediately address the genuine demand of intern doctors.”

Meanwhile, AIMSA leader Dr Imran, who is leading the protest at GMC Doda, questioned the repeated assurances from the Health Minister, saying, “Why is the Health Minister repeating the same statement that was given one year ago? Interns need action, not repeated assurances.”

Dr Mohammad Momin Khan Incharge AIMSA J&K expressed gratitude to Aga Ruhullah, Waheed Para and Altaf Bukhari for visiting and extending their support to the protesting intern doctors.

He also said the government must act immediately on the stipend issue, warning that the prolonged protests could eventually affect patient care and hospital services across J&K.

As part of the ongoing peaceful protest, a candle march will be held tonight at 8:45 PM across the participating medical colleges and SKIMS Bemina.

The interns have warned that if their demands are not fulfilled, they will proceed with a hunger strike.

The protesting interns continue to demand an immediate revision of their stipend from Rs 12,300 to ₹30,000 per month.
