CHENNAI: A 24-year-old woman was murdered by her husband, who slit her throat on a road in Ambattur on Tuesday night after persuading her to return home following a marital dispute.Police arrested the accused, Chinna, 34, an autorickshaw driver from Indira Nagar in Menambedu, around midnight. The victim, Devaki, had also been learning to drive an autorickshaw. The couple have three children – two daughters and a son.Police said the couple had frequent disputes over Devaki’s interactions with male friends on Instagram. Following an argument, Devaki had moved to her mother’s house in Thirumullaivoyal.On Tuesday night, Chinna approached Devaki and persuaded her to return, telling her they should reconcile for the sake of their three children. He brought her to their Indira Nagar house, where the two spoke for about two hours.Later, Chinna asked Devaki to drive the autorickshaw while he sat in the rear. When they reached an isolated stretch, he pulled out a knife he had concealed and slit her throat, police said. Devaki collapsed on the road with severe bleeding.Passers-by who spotted her alerted Pudur police.Police inquiries indicated that a man who had travelled with her in an autorickshaw had attacked her. Investigators traced the vehicle using its registration number and launched a search for Chinna.Around midnight, police found him drinking with friends at Kamarajapuram, behind the Ambattur police station, and arrested him.During questioning, Chinna told police that he suspected his wife of having a relationship with another man and had lured her back before killing her.
