Ahmedabad: Gujarat DGP G S Malik on Friday directed police officers across the state to speed up the integration of privately installed CCTV cameras with the police surveillance network to strengthen monitoring and crime detection.The directions were issued during a video conference held from Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar. The meeting was attended by police commissioners, range inspector generals, district superintendents of police and heads of police units.According to officials, the meeting reviewed law and order, crime prevention, public grievance redressal, police welfare and the progress of reforms under Mission Better Policing.A key focus of the review was expanding the state’s surveillance network through the integration of public and private CCTV cameras. Malik discussed measures to link privately owned cameras with police monitoring systems and called for greater public participation in increasing camera coverage. Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving surveillance, aiding investigations and assisting police in responding to incidents.Reviewing the law-and-order situation, the DGP directed officers to maintain vigilance and take steps to ensure public safety. .According to a statement from the DGP office, Malik reviewed the deployment of body-worn cameras and the implementation of online systems for serving summons and warrants. He instructed officers to ensure their effective use.
