The panel titled “High Plenary Session: Disputes & Arbitration — India’s Global Resolution Framework,” moderated by Chitra Rentala (Partner – Dispute Resolution and Arbitration, White-Collar Crime, Trilegal), discussed India’s global resolution framework, emphasising the need for legal reforms to enhance arbitration efficiency.

Justice D.Y. Chandrachud (Former Chief Justice of India) highlighted the importance of objective procedures and transparency in arbitration. Justice Som Shekhar Sundaresan (Judge, Bombay High Court) noted the lack of arbitral institutions and the need for private sector involvement. Chetan Kapadia (Senior Advocate) and Bhavi Sanghvi (General Counsel at KKR) stressed the cost and efficiency advantages of Indian arbitration over international institutions. Sandeep Chaudhary (Group General Counsel at Suzlon Energy) underscored the need for more institutional arbitration and better enforcement mechanisms. The discussion concluded with the need for faster disposal of arbitration cases and more predictable post-award proceedings.
