Berhampur: Infrastructure facilities in seven degree colleges in Ganjam district will get a major boost as the Central govt has sanctioned over Rs 3.2 crore to each college. The govt has sanctioned the funds to the colleges under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) scheme recently, said Narayan Behera, regional director of education, Berhampur, here.The colleges that will benefit under the central scheme are Govt Science College, Chhatrapur, a govt-run college, Gopalpur Degree College, Gopalpur, Chikiti Mahavidyalaya, Chikiti, Ramjee Degree College, Bhismagiri, Science Degree College, Polasara, Tara Tarini Degree Mahavidyalaya, Purushottampur, and Anchalika Science Degree Mahavidyalaya, Balipadar (all aided colleges).Infrastructure facilities like new academic buildings, library halls, examination halls and laboratories will be built with the funds in each college. The authorities will find out the infrastructure gaps in their respective colleges and accordingly chalk out the plans for proper utilisationof funds. The detailed project report (DPR) of each college would be prepared by prioritising their urgent infrastructure requirements and funds utilised accordingly, said Behera.Principal, Tara Tarini College, Purushotampur, Pradip Kumar Sahu said they have proposed for construction of a three-storied building under the project. In the building there will be 15 rooms with all facilities. The honours classes will be held in these proposed rooms. The building will solve the accommodation problem of students, said Sahu.Earlier, the Central govt sanctioned Rs 100 crore to Berhampur University under the scheme to develop the university as the multi-disciplinary education and research university (MERU). Berhampur was among the four universities in the state to be developed as MERU under the PM-USHA scheme.The other universities which are included under the scheme are Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, Maharaja Sri Ramachandra Bhanja Deo University, Mayurbhanj, and Sambalpur University, Sambalpur, sources said.
