Chandrasekhar, the BJP candidate from Nemom in Thiruvananthapuram, has been accused by the Congress of failing to disclose ownership of a high-value residential property in Bengaluru.
In a series of posts on X, the party claimed that Chandrasekhar did not declare a 49,000 sq ft bungalow located in Koramangala, spread over 1.07 acres and estimated to be worth around Rs 200 crore. The Congress further alleged that the affidavit filed by the BJP leader stated that he owned no residential property or car.
Seeking action under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Congress said such omissions warranted disqualification. It added that failure to act would raise questions about the impartiality of the poll body.
The Congress, which leads the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala, described the property as being situated in one of the country’s most premium real estate locations, with land prices ranging between Rs 35,000 and Rs 50,000 per sq ft or higher. The party also shared what it said was a property tax receipt to support its claim of Chandrasekhar’s ownership.
“Rajeev Chandrasekhar appears to believe he can repeatedly mislead the Election Commission. His affidavit suggests he owns no residential property or car despite being a billionaire businessman,” the Congress said in its post.
In a separate remark, the party took a swipe at the BJP leader, questioning the claims made in his affidavit.Chandrasekhar has not responded to the allegations so far.
