Panaji: Industry representatives have raised concerns over what they described as the “comparatively high” warehousing and cargo handling charges levied by the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) at the Verna Railway Station goods shed, calling for a review of the tariff structure.At an interactive meeting organised by the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), CWC officials asked industry representatives to approach higher authorities for a tariff review. They added that a commitment from industry to assured cargo volumes would strengthen the case for rationalising the charges.The meeting, chaired by GCCI logistics committee chairperson Chandrakant Gawas and Konkan Railway divisional railway commercial manager Dileep Bhat, brought together representatives of GCCI, KRCL, CWC, freight customers, logistics partners and traders to discuss operational issues and promote rail-based freight movement through the Verna goods shed.

Konkan Railway highlighted the shed’s infrastructure and urged industries, importers and exporters to shift more cargo to rail to reduce logistics costs and improve efficiency. GCCI and KRCL said the issues raised, including tariffs, would be taken up with the appropriate authorities.Gawas proposed quarterly meetings between KRCL and industry to resolve operational issues and boost utilisation of the Verna goods shed, which became operational in Dec 2023.
